Aging in Place in Back Cove

Do you love your home, your neighbors, your surroundings? Not attracted by a retirement community? Do you ever say to yourself, "I wish I could just grow older, here, at home"?

There is a growing, national movement to establish "Villages" offering support services that allow you, or someone you love, to remain safely and securely at home as long as possible. “Villages” can provide grocery or meal delivery, home repair and maintenance services, even health care assistance. Each “Village” is designed to the needs of the participants.

The Back Cove Neighborhood Association is exploring how to establish an Aging in Place “Village” in our area.

Friends of Heseltine Park

Heseltine Park is nestled between Forest Avenue and Ocean Avenue in Portland, Maine. It features a swing set, play structure, and a field popular with neighborhood children who come to play baseball and softball. A picnic table in the shade offers a welcome respite during hot summer days.

While the park is a treasured neighborhood resource, we think it could be even better! Our current goal is to gather feedback from those who use the park on a regular basis. Do you have ideas to contribute, or would you like to learn more about our work? Visit our website by clicking here.
