Neighborhood Initiatives

Back Cove Village

Back Cove Village, a BCNA initiative, is an organization to help our neighbors maintain active, social, safe, and independent lives, supporting seniors who wish to remain in their own homes as long as possible. Back Cove Village is part of Portland Area Villages, Inc., a non-profit membership organization providing services and assistance to members through a volunteer force. The Village Movement is world-wide and villages are tailored to the needs of the individual neighborhoods and members.

Back Cove Village can provide services such as transportation to appointments, shopping, and social events, light household chores, light gardening, daily phone check-in, friendly visits, and more.

Friends of Heseltine Park

Heseltine Park is nestled between Forest Avenue and Ocean Avenue in Portland, Maine. It features a swing set, play structure, and a field popular with neighborhood children who come to play baseball and softball. A picnic table in the shade offers a welcome respite during hot summer days.

While the park is a treasured neighborhood resource, we think it could be even better! Our current goal is to gather feedback from those who use the park on a regular basis. Do you have ideas to contribute, or would you like to learn more about our work? Visit our website by clicking here.
